Project summary

The avenue of AMETHYST project investigations is the assessment and monitoring of spatial changes of coastlines and environmental trends in the Western Russian Arctic (WeRA).
Implementation of modern developments in satellite remote sensing, digital image processing and GIS technologies for shoreline mapping and revising coastal hydrographic details in the extreme conditions of the Russian Arctic is a major AMETHYST approach.
Emphasis is put on regional and local studies on Novaya Zemlya, Severnaya Zemlya and Franz Josef Land archipelagos of the Barents and Kara seas.

The project is financed by the European Union and consists of 6 international groups located in Germany (Munich), Austria (Graz), Norway (Bergen) and Russia (Moscow, St. Petersburg).
